Experience
Joe has been studying music since 1996. Joe has been part of the local music scene since 2005 as a solo act and with several duos, trios, bands. He is versed in the styles of country, folk, bluegrass, and classic rock. Joe teaches beginner guitar and primarily teaches children ages 6 to 14. He has been teaching guitar since January 2008 and is a licensed teacher in Ohio and West Virginia.
Students will start by learning the parts of the guitar and basic symbols. Then, students will work out of a book and learn how to read music and the musical symbols. Joe’s students will learn what he calls “Music Theory 101” which includes reading standard music, playing chords, scales, chord structure, musical intervals, the Circle of Fifths, as well as reading tablature and more. Joe gives his students two opportunities a year to showcase their talents in his Summer and Christmas Showcases. Joe will also hold seminars on the guitar, music, and buying intended for students and parents alike several times throughout the year.

•Bachelor’s degree from Ohio University in Middle Childhood Education

•Private lessons in music and piano performance

•Guitar workshops with veteran music scholars and master fingerstyle guitar players: Dr. Pat Corn, John Standefer (2002 National Fingerstyle Champion at Winfield), and John McClellan (writer and instructor for Mel Bayes Music). In addition to those guitar workshops, Joe has taken workshops from Morning Nichols on vocals and performance.
